Be aware of superannuation scams

Two data incidents have been reported in Australia this month that raise concerns about the potential misuse of personal and financial information, and so we are reminding all members to be aware of superannuation scams.

PLEASE NOTE: these data incidents DID NOT affect Australian Food Super members, but we remain vigilant and on high alert.

How we help protect your account

We have these security controls in place to protect your super:

  • A dedicated team monitors accounts for suspicious activity
  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is required for MemberAccess (a 6-digit SMS code)
  • Some transactions cannot be completed online for added protection
  • Accounts are locked after repeated failed login attempts

What should you do?

Scammers commonly pretend to be:

  • your super fund
  • the ATO
  • MyGov
  • a financial adviser

They may ask you to “confirm your details” or “verify your account”.
Remember: we will never ask for your password or login code.

You can protect yourself by:

  • Calling us if something doesn’t feel right
  • Not clicking links in unexpected emails or text messages
  • Not sharing your login details or SMS codes with anyone
  • Using strong passwords and keeping your contact details up to date

When to contact us immediately

Please call us on 1800 808 614 if:

  • you receive a suspicious email, call or SMS about your super
  • your contact details change without you requesting it
  • you receive a One-Time Code you did not request
  • you notice any unusual activity on your account

If someone calls you claiming to be from Australian Food Super, it’s always okay to hang up and call us back on our official number.
